We are saddened to inform you that contributing poet Dick Allen died on December 26th after suffering a heart attack on Christmas. He was 78.
In the words of one of his friends who shared the news, “He was our brother in poetry, an extraordinary poet who not only served as Connecticut’s Poet Laureate for five years but was a hugely generous advocate of poetry and poets. He made us all richer because of his life-long devotion. We will miss him dearly!”
You may read Dick’s obituary here. And here’s a lovely eulogy by his daughter Tanya A. Allen.
We will always be grateful for Dick’s contribution to Poetry of Presence as well as his myriad suggestions and words of encouragement.
We extend deep sympathy to Lori Allen and Dick’s entire family. May abiding love and precious memories bring you present comfort.
